Bicycle Accident Injuries in Illinois

Bicycle accidents are all too common in Chicago, and they are a major source of worry for city officials. According to state statistics, an average of six bikers died per year in Chicago between 2012 and 2019. Furthermore, the frequency of these tragic instances is rising.

Despite decreased traffic on the roadways owing to the COVID-19 epidemic, nine bikers were killed in Chicago in 2020, according to city officials. In addition, ten bikers died in 2021, and virtually all of them were struck and killed by automobile drivers. To make matters worse, the vast majority of these collisions are avoidable and are often caused by speeding or inattentive drivers.

Even worse, bikers are among the most vulnerable persons on our roadways. Bicyclists who are involved in automobile accidents, provided they survive their wounds, often struggle with long-term injuries, including TBIs, extensive scarring, fractured bones, and more. These victims may need immediate surgery or ongoing medical care, which might take weeks or months to recover from.

Unfortunately, many of these bikers die as a result of their injuries. When these victims are killed in an accident that was not their fault, their grieving families are forced to deal with tremendous mental anguish as well as significant financial ramifications.
