Chicago, IL – Driver Killed, Seven Injured in Head-on Collision on Torrence Ave

Chicago, IL - Driver Killed, Seven Injured in Head-on Collision on Torrence Ave

Chicago, IL (May 13, 2023) – Chicago police reported one fatality and nine injuries after a multi-vehicle incident on the city’s far South Side on Saturday afternoon, May 13.

The accident occurred on South Torrence Avenue, specifically in the 12700 block.

CFD originally claimed that seven individuals were in very serious condition. According to Chicago police, three children, ages 9, 5, and 2, were transported to Comer Children’s Hospital but were later reported to be in good condition.

Chicago police said that four drivers were involved in the accident, caused by an initial head-on collision between a driver traveling northbound on Torrence Avenue and an SUV going southbound after the driver crossed into oncoming traffic. Two additional cars swerved to avoid hitting the wreck and wrecked as a result.

Investigators say one of the drivers later died at Advocate Christ Medical Center.

No citations have been issued as of yet, though officers with the Chicago Police Department are still investigating.

We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the deceased victim’s family. Our thoughts go out to the injured victims and their loved ones at this time.

Major Vehicle Wrecks in Chicago

Over 910 auto accidents caused the serious injury or deaths of around 1,010 people. Drunk driving, head-on collisions with stationary objects, and excessive speed are the three most common causes of fatal automobile accidents.

The majority of fatal and injury-causing collisions in Cook County occur at or near busy intersections and multi-lane thoroughfares. According to newly released data from the state of Illinois, more than one-fourth of all traffic accidents occur in the greater Chicago metropolitan region.

Automobile accident victims often bear the consequences of others’ recklessness. In addition to the stress and agony caused by accident-related injuries, patients must struggle with escalating medical expenses and other financial challenges.
