Chicago, IL – Drivers Hospitalized After Two-Vehicle Wreck on S Western Ave

Chicago, IL - Drivers Hospitalized After Two-Vehicle Wreck on S Western Ave

Chicago, IL (April 23, 2022) – Two people suffered injuries after a crash that took place in the Chicago Lawn area on Thursday afternoon, April 21.

Around 4:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to the scene of the accident. Initial reports indicate that a 25-year-old man was driving northbound on South Western Avenue in a silver Honda when he ran a red light. He then collided with a 59-year-old man driving a white Nissan Pathfinder.

Both drivers were taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center with moderate injuries but were said to be in good condition.

No citations have been issued, and the events leading up to the collision are still unknown. Chicago Police Department officers say their investigation is ongoing at this time.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families. We hope for their full recovery.

Multi-Vehicle Accidents in Illinois

National Safety Council officials released their preliminary data for motor vehicle injuries and deaths nationwide, which showed a 9% increase in fatalities in 2021 when compared to 2020. In Illinois alone, authorities reported an 18% increase in vehicle accident deaths, with nearly 21o more deaths in 2021. That figure amounts to a rise of almost 35% since 2019.

What’s more, a large number of car wrecks happen in Cook County compared to other counties statewide. In fact, up to 25% of all Illinois auto accidents occur in the Chicago metro region and in Cook County.

Unfortunately, it’s clear that multi-vehicle accidents are all too common throughout Illinois, particularly in the Chicagoland area. And when victims suffer injuries or are killed in wrecks caused by the reckless actions of others, they and their family members pay the price.

From emotional trauma to exorbitant financial expenses, those affected by these serious incidents may feel like they have nowhere to turn in the aftermath of a crash. Oftentimes, victims and their families face an uphill battle with at-fault drivers and insurance negotiations.

But if you’ve sustained injuries in one of these accidents or even lost a loved one, you may have a number of legal options available to you as you move forward. When you’ve been involved in a car crash caused by the negligent actions of another party, contact a car accident attorney in Chicago as soon as possible.
