Chicago, IL – Four Adults, One Child Hospitalized in CTA Bus Accident on DuSable Lake Shore Dr

Chicago, IL - Four Adults, One Child Hospitalized in CTA Bus Accident on DuSable Lake Shore Dr

Chicago, IL (May 5, 2022) – Five victims, including four adults and one child, were rushed to an area hospital on Thursday morning, May 5, after a CTA bus accident took place on DuSable Lake Shore Drive near Kenwood.

The wreck reportedly involved an articulated CTA bus, along with several other drivers, and occurred in the northbound lanes of DuSable Lake Shore Drive, close to 49th Street. Around 7:30 a.m., first responders and Chicago Fire Department crews were dispatched to the site of the incident.

Officials say that 50 passengers were on the bus at the time of the collision and, other than the five victims hospitalized, reported only minor injuries. The five people who were transported to the hospital are expected to make a full recovery.

The investigation into the CTA accident continues at this time, with no further details available.

Our thoughts are with the victims who were injured in this bus wreck, as well as their families. We hope for their complete recovery.

City Bus Accidents in Illinois

According to reports from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, there were more than 80 school buses, 15 city buses, and 75 transit buses involved in fatal vehicle wrecks in 2019 alone. Thanks to innovations in roadway and vehicle safety, these are some of the lowest numbers recorded since FARS began collecting data in 1975.

However, transit bus accidents remain somewhat common throughout the country, particularly in urban locales like the Chicagoland area. In fact, the latest analysis by Illinois officials estimated that a Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) bus is involved in some type of auto accident at least once daily.

Unfortunately, personal injury claims and cases involving commercial vehicles and buses can be complicated. Oftentimes, there are multiple plaintiffs when it comes to a bus accident, and each victim may have sustained various injuries requiring different levels of medical treatment. Due to the sheer size and power of a large bus, victims can suffer especially serious injuries in accidents, including but not limited to severe whiplash, spinal cord damage, TBIs, and more.

Fortunately, if you or a loved one has been injured in one of these situations, you may have a variety of legal alternatives available to you in the aftermath.
