Chicago, IL – Four Hurt in CTA Bus Accident at 111th St & Michigan Ave

Chicago, IL - Four Hurt in CTA Bus Accident at 111th St & Michigan Ave

Chicago, IL (February 3, 2023) – According to Chicago fire authorities, four people were wounded after a CTA bus collided with a currency exchange building on the Far South Side of Chicago.

The event occurred just after 6:00 p.m. at a currency exchange on 111th Street and Michigan Avenue.

Per Chicago police, a CTA bus traveling northbound on Michigan Avenue was hit by a Nissan Maxima that ran a red light. The bus driver then lost control and crashed into the exchange before catching fire.

One 48-year-old bus passenger was sent to Roseland Hospital in good condition, another 54-year-old bus passenger was transported to Trinity Hospital in good condition, and a 28-year-old woman, possibly the bus driver, was transported to Little Company of Mary Hospital with minor injuries. The CPD said that the 20-year-old driver of the Nissan Maxima was transported to Christ Hospital in stable condition.

No one in the exchange building was hurt.

The police did not disclose if there were any outstanding charges or citations, but officers say their investigation is still ongoing.

Our thoughts are with the victims who were injured in this bus accident. We hope for their complete recovery.

Metro Bus Crashes in Illinois

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration reports that in 2019, over eighty school buses, fifteen municipal buses, and seventy-five transit buses were involved in fatal car accidents. There is still a high incidence of accidents involving transit buses, especially in densely populated locations like the Chicagoland area. According to the most current data analysis conducted by officials in Illinois, at least one CTA bus is involved in an accident every single day.

Bus accidents sometimes include several claimants, all of whom may have suffered different injuries and hence have distinct needs in terms of medical care. In addition, due to the bus’s massive size and force, victims of these incidents are considerably more likely to suffer from significant injuries, such as severe whiplash, damage to the spinal cord, traumatic brain injuries (TBI), and many more.
