Chicago, IL – Hit-and-Run Accident at 53rd St & Lake Park Ave Injures Victim
Chicago, IL (May 23, 2023) – Two drivers collided at the intersection of 53rd Street and Lake Park Avenue in the Hyde Park area around dawn on Tuesday morning, sending debris into the building and injuring one person.
On Tuesday, May 23, at about 5:30 a.m., the accident was reported to the University of Chicago Police Department.
The University of Chicago’s Associate Director of Public Affairs, Gerald McSwiggan, said that a motorist speeding down 53rd Street from South Hyde Park Boulevard collided with a car heading south on Lake Park Avenue after making a right left onto Lake Park. After the incident, both cars smashed into the Starbucks at 1530 East 53rd St, and the speeding driver fled the scene on foot.
McSwiggan said the second vehicle’s driver suffered injuries and required transport to the University of Chicago Medical Center.
Officers are still investigating the wreck and have not provided further details. In the meantime, any witnesses to the incident were asked to step forward.
