Chicago, IL – Infant Killed, Four Hospitalized After Accident Involving Stolen Vehicle on Washington St

Chicago, IL - Infant Killed, Four Hospitalized After Accident Involving Stolen Vehicle on Washington St

Chicago, IL (April 20, 2023) – On Sunday night, a stolen car was involved in an accident that claimed the life of a 6-month-old boy.

A representative for the Chicago Police Department said that two youths are suspected of stealing a Hyundai and smashing it into a pickup truck at around 5:00 p.m. in the 4400 block of West Washington Street.

The pickup’s driver, a 34-year-old woman, and three child passengers, ages six months to 15 years old, were all sent to the hospital for treatment.

Officials stated the hospital pronounced the six-month-old child deceased. According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, the infant suffered brain trauma in the accident.

The Hyundai’s teen passengers were also transferred to an area hospital for medical attention.

The car was stolen, and the two teenagers, ages 14 and 17, were charged with criminal trespass to a vehicle. An investigation remains ongoing in the interim, and no additional details were made available.

Our deepest condolences go out to the families of the deceased child. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of their full recovery.

Car Accident Fatalities in Chicagoland

The Federal Highway Administration (FHA) receives thousands of reports of accidents at intersections every year, with unsafe lane changes and driver distraction being the leading causes of these incidents. According to statistics, about half of all car accidents occur at crossroads or on major highways. Furthermore, more than a quarter of all Illinois traffic accidents occur in and around Chicago.

Adding insult to injury, victims and their families often pay for the damages caused by the accident, regardless of who or what was at fault. The emotional toll and financial burden placed on those in the immediate line of these unfortunate incidents leave them feeling powerless, to say the least.

Thankfully, Illinois law provides for legal recourse for anyone injured in car accidents owing to the carelessness or recklessness of another motorist. However, since it’s generally difficult to secure full and fair financial compensation from drivers or their insurance companies without the aid of an attorney, it is crucial for accident victims to have skilled legal representation.
