Injuries Reported in Illinois Bicycle Accidents

In Chicago, bicycle accidents are all too prevalent, and they are a significant cause of concern for municipal authorities. Between 2012 and 2019, an average of six bicyclists perished every year in Chicago, according to state data. Furthermore, the number of these catastrophic events is increasing.

Despite the fact that the COVID-19 outbreak reduced traffic on the roads, nine cyclists were killed in Chicago in 2020, according to municipal statistics. In addition, 10 motorcyclists died in 2021, with almost all of them being hit and killed by automobiles. To make things worse, the great majority of these incidents are preventable, with speeding or inattentive driving being the most common causes.

Worse, bicyclists are among the most vulnerable people on our roads. Bicyclists who are engaged in vehicle accidents may suffer long-term disabilities, such as TBIs, substantial scars, shattered bones, and more, assuming they survive their injuries. These patients may need emergency surgery or continued medical care, with recovery times of weeks or months.

Many of these motorcyclists, unfortunately, die as a consequence of their injuries. When these people are killed in an accident that was not their fault, their bereaved families are left with a great deal of emotional suffering as well as considerable financial consequences.
