Police responded to the accident around 10:45 p.m. in the southbound lanes near the Stony Island feeder ramp. Medics transported the victim to a local area hospital, where they were pronounced dead, ISP added.

The driver involved apparently fled the scene, though officers said they located the suspect a short time later. The incident is still active and ongoing, and further details have not been provided at this time.

We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim.

Pedestrian Accident Fatalities in Illinois

In recent years, pedestrian deaths have increased by more than 30% nationwide, despite the fact that the number of deaths caused by other types of vehicle accidents has generally decreased. This unfortunate trend is mirrored throughout Illinois, home to some of the busiest cities in the United States, including Chicago, Springfield, and Bloomington, where pedestrians face an increased risk of serious injury or death in auto collisions.

In fact, the Cook County area consistently leads the state in pedestrian deaths. According to officials from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), pedestrian fatalities reached a five-year high in 2019, with over 100 fatalities in Cook County alone. Sadly, when victims suffer injuries or are killed in wrecks caused by the reckless actions of others, they and their family members are the ones who pay the price.

Whether they’re forced to cope with emotional trauma or exorbitant financial expenses, those affected by these serious incidents may feel like they have nowhere to turn in the aftermath of a serious accident. Oftentimes, injured victims or grieving families face an uphill battle with at-fault drivers and insurance negotiations, leaving them to deal with unimaginable stress.

If you’ve sustained injuries in one of these accidents or lost a loved one, you may have a number of legal options available to you as you move forward. When you’ve been involved in a car crash caused by the negligent actions of another party, contact a car accident attorney in Chicago as soon as possible.

Wrongful Death Attorney in Chicago

In the case that your loved one has died due to the reckless behavior of another individual, you may have legal recourse. The Illinois Wrongful Death Act allows victims who are hurt by another driver’s negligent or distracted driving to seek compensation from the responsible party. If a suit is successful, compensation is then awarded to family members and any dependents.

It can be difficult for victims to obtain a full, fair monetary award from drivers or their insurance companies, so it’s essential for family members to contact an attorney as soon as they can in the aftermath of a wreck. Here at the D&W Law Group, we stop at nothing to fight for the fair, full monetary award you deserve when you’ve been involved in a preventable accident or have lost a loved one.

  • "Great Settlement"

When I had my accident, the insurance company dragged its feet. I tried to handle the case on my own. I am so glad I decided to hire D&W Law Group. They kept my case moving, and I was awarded a great settlement. I hope I never need an attorney again, but if I do I will call them.
