Chicago, IL (June 14, 2022) – After being hit by a vehicle in the Roseland area on Tuesday afternoon, June 14, one person was transported to an area medical center, where they are still recuperating as of Tuesday night.
The accident took place close to the intersection of 103rd Street and Wallace Street. Initial reports from the Roseland Police Department indicate that the driver of a red Saturn first collided with a silver Honda and then fled the scene before hitting a pedestrian.
The person behind the wheel of the Saturn proceeded to crash into a neighboring structure before stopping. The driver of the Saturn was taken into custody by officers, and medics transferred the pedestrian to a local hospital, where they remain in good condition.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is still ongoing at this time.
Our thoughts and best wishes are with the injured victim and their loved ones. We are hoping for their quick recovery.
Injuries in Chicago-Area Pedestrian Accidents
Pedestrian fatalities in the United States have increased by more than 30% in recent years, despite a general decrease in the number of deaths caused by other types of vehicle accidents. This terrible trend can be seen across Illinois, which is home to some of the country’s most populous cities and walkable neighborhoods, including Chicago, Springfield, and Bloomington. On the packed streets of these densely populated places, pedestrians are unfortunately at a substantially greater danger of severe injury or death.
In fact, Cook County has the highest rate of pedestrian fatalities in the state. Pedestrian fatalities in 2019 reached a five-year high, according to authorities, with over 100 victims in Cook County alone.
When confronted with the stressful aftermath of a big accident, victims may feel as if they have nowhere to turn, whether they are coping with lingering health concerns, physical discomfort, or large medical expenditures. Pedestrian accident victims sometimes die as a result of their injuries, leaving grieving families to deal with growing bills, lost earning potential, and funeral costs, in addition to the indescribable pain of losing a loved one.
