Traffic Accidents in Chicago

A look at statistics from the Illinois Department of Transportation tells us that there are approximately 320,000 car accidents reported statewide each year. Of those crashes, approximately half of them occurred in the Cook County area. With congested roadways, reckless drivers, and busy travel in and out of the city, Chicago certainly sees its fair share of collisions.

Every Chicago car accident will be investigated by authorities. The police will document the scene, take photographs, speak with any witnesses, and attempt to determine who was at fault for the crash. Upon a determination, authorities can issue a citation or charge the offending driver with a crime. In this case, the motorist can face potential criminal penalties for their actions. Additionally, the driver can face other consequences such as a personal injury lawsuit under Illinois law.
