Chicago, IL – Three Hurt in Wrong-Way Accident on Eisenhower Expy at 1st Ave in Forest Park

Chicago, IL - Three Hurt in Wrong-Way Accident on Eisenhower Expy at 1st Ave in Forest Park

Chicago, IL (May 28, 2022) – Three people were hurt as a result of a wrong-way crash that took place on the Eisenhower Expressway early on Saturday morning, May 28, according to an initial statement released by Illinois State Police troopers.

Right around 3:00 a.m., ISP troopers reported to the site of a two-vehicle accident involving a wrong-way driver on I-290 eastbound, close to the 1st Avenue exit in Forest Park.

Preliminary reports indicate that the driver of a reddish Toyota was going westbound in the eastbound lanes when they hit a silver-colored Infiniti.

Three victims were transferred to local medical facilities by ambulance, two with serious injuries and one other person with major, life-threatening injuries. Another person declined medical treatment at the scene, ISP added.

The eastbound lanes were shut down around 3:10 a.m. but reopened by about 4:15 a.m. The investigation remains active at this time, however, and additional details have not been made available.

Our sincere thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of their full recovery.

Wrong-Way Auto Accidents in Illinois

According to findings provided by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, there were 2,921 fatal wrong-way collisions that resulted in 3,885 fatalities between the years 2010 and 2018. This works out to an average of 430 deaths each year. Moreover, over half of these fatalities were owed to the drivers who were traveling the wrong way on the road (53%), a minor number were the passengers of these drivers (6%), and around four in ten (41%) were occupants of other vehicles.

However, when victims suffer injuries caused by the irresponsible conduct of others, they and their family members are the ones who end up paying the price for the accident, regardless of what precipitated the collision. Those who have been impacted by these major situations may feel as if they have nowhere else to turn when confronted with the debilitating psychological stress and exorbitant medical expenditures.

If you’ve been hurt in one of these incidents, or even if you’ve lost a loved one as a result of one of these accidents, you may have a variety of legal remedies open to you in the aftermath of the incident. That’s why the first thing you should do (after you’ve gotten adequate medical treatment) is get in touch with a car accident attorney in Chicago as soon as you can.

Under Illinois law, a person who was hurt in a vehicle crash in Illinois and believes that their injuries were caused by another driver’s reckless or distracted driving has the legal right to file a claim for financial compensation. However, since it may be difficult to get a monetary award that is comprehensive and fair from drivers or their insurance companies, it is very important for accident victims to retain the services of skilled legal counsel.
