We would like to offer our sincerest condolences to the loved ones of the deceased child.

Chicago Bicycle Accident Fatalities

Accidents involving bicycles are all too prevalent in Chicago and a significant cause of concern for municipal authorities. According to state data, between 2012 and 2019, an average of six people on bicycles per year died in Chicago. Moreover, the incidence of deadly incidents is increasing.

Even worse, bicyclists involved in automotive accidents often suffer catastrophic injuries, such as traumatic brain injuries, significant scarring, bone fractures, and more. These individuals may need emergency surgery or intensive medical treatment that may take weeks or even months to heal.

Sadly, many of these victims die as a consequence of their injuries. And when these victims are killed in an accident that was not their fault, their grieving family members are forced to endure immense emotional anguish as well as substantial financial consequences.

If you were hurt or lost a loved one in a bicycle accident caused by someone else’s negligence, you may be able to seek a number of legal remedies. If you have lost a loved one in an accident that may have been avoided, contact a Chicago automobile accident attorney immediately.

In Illinois, a claim for wrongful death is often filed by the executor of the deceased’s estate, who is typically a family member or next of kin. According to the Illinois Wrongful Death Act, a wrongful death claim in Illinois may be based on any negligent or criminal behavior that results in a fatality. If a case is successful, family members and dependents get compensation.

Because the majority of wrongful death claims must be brought within two years of the date of death, it is imperative that family members and other representatives contact an attorney immediately after a sad event.
