Chicago, IL - Woman Dead, Driver Hospitalized in Two-Car Wreck at 51st & State Sts

Chicago, IL (September 16, 2022) – According to Chicago police, a passenger in a white SUV was killed in a two-vehicle incident early Saturday morning on the South Side’s Grand Boulevard area.

A 45-year-old woman was driving a white SUV west on 51st Street just before 2:00 a.m. when a pick-up vehicle struck the SUV at a stop signal at State Street after running a red light.

A passenger in the SUV, 46, was brought to the University of Chicago Medical Center and declared deceased. According to authorities, the driver was transferred to the same hospital and is in severe condition. The pick-up truck’s 18-year-old driver was unharmed, however.

The victim has not been identified as of Saturday morning. The Major Accidents Unit is responsible for the investigation.

In any event, the police have not disclosed any further information and are still investigating.
