Chicagoland’s Pedestrian Accident Fatality Rates
Despite a general decline in mortality from other motor vehicle accidents, pedestrian deaths in the United States have climbed by roughly 36% in recent years. Illinois is home to a number of the most populous and walkable cities in the United States, including Chicago and Springfield. On the busy streets of these densely populated locations, pedestrians also face an elevated risk of death or serious injury.
Cook County in Illinois has the state’s highest pedestrian fatality rate. At least 120 pedestrians were killed in Cook County in 2019, the greatest number in at least five years.
In the aftermath of a terrible event, victims may feel hopeless in the face of their continued physical suffering, extreme mental torment, and/or significant financial obligations. Numerous pedestrian accident victims do not survive, leaving behind bereaved family members and burial expenses.
