Chicago-Area Pedestrian Crash Fatalities
In recent years, the number of pedestrian fatalities in the United States has climbed by more than 30 percent, despite a general decline in fatalities caused by other forms of vehicle accidents. Illinois, home to some of the nation’s most populated cities and walkable areas, such as Chicago, Springfield, and Bloomington, is experiencing this dreadful trend. On the congested streets of these highly populated areas, pedestrians sadly face an elevated risk of serious injury or death.
In fact, Cook County has the state’s highest pedestrian fatality rate. Authorities report that pedestrian deaths hit a five-year high in 2019, with over 100 casualties in Cook County alone.
When faced with the traumatic aftermath of a major accident, victims may feel as if they have nowhere to turn, whether they are suffering from ongoing health issues, physical pain, or substantial medical expenses. Occasionally, pedestrian accident victims die as a consequence of their injuries, leaving bereaved families to struggle with mounting bills, lost earning potential, and burial expenses in addition to the unimaginable agony of losing a family one.
