Illinois Pedestrian Accident Fatalities
Pedestrian deaths in the United States have increased by nearly 35% over the past several years, in spite of an overall drop in the number of fatalities caused by other types of vehicle accidents. This devastating trend can be seen throughout Illinois, which is home to some of the country’s most populous cities and walkable neighborhoods, including Chicago and its suburbs, Bloomington, Springfield, and beyond. On the packed streets of these densely populated places, pedestrians are unfortunately at a substantially higher threat of serious injury or death.
In fact, Cook County has the highest rate of pedestrian deaths in the state. Pedestrian fatalities surged to a record high in 2019, according to authorities, with over 100 victims in Cook County alone.
When confronted with the stressful aftermath of a major accident, victims may feel confused or frustrated about their next steps, whether they are coping with lingering health concerns, emotional distress, or sizable medical expenditures. Pedestrian accident victims often die as a result of their injuries, leaving grieving families to deal with mounting bills, lost earning potential, and funeral costs, in addition to the indescribable pain of losing a loved one.
