Highland Park, IL (August 18, 2022) – On Thursday evening, August 18, in Highland Park, a Metra train struck a woman, causing her to sustain severe injuries.

Metra officials report that the woman, whose age is unknown, was struck at approximately 5:40 p.m., just north of downtown Highland Park near Elm Place, as the train was leaving Chicago. A spokeswoman for Metra stated that paramedics discovered the woman alive, but she had lost a great deal of blood due to serious injuries. In reportedly critical condition, she was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center.

The woman’s bicycle and personal possessions were retrieved on a neighboring sidewalk.

According to Metra officials, the train was halted for approximately two hours. All trains resumed operation just before 8:00 p.m., despite the ongoing investigation.

We wish the injured victim and her family a fast recovery.

Serious Injuries in Chicago Region Pedestrian Crashes

Despite a general decline in fatalities from other motor vehicle accidents, the number of pedestrian fatalities in the United States has increased by roughly 36% in recent years. Illinois is home to some of the most populated and walkable cities in the United States, including Chicago, Springfield, and others. In these densely populated areas, it is more likely that a pedestrian will be killed or seriously injured while traversing these busy, high-traffic routes.

Cook County in Illinois has the highest rate of pedestrian fatalities in the state. 2019 saw a five-year high of at least 120 pedestrian fatalities in Cook County.

Whether they are battling persistent physical concerns, intense anguish, or exorbitant medical bills, victims of a horrific disaster may feel helpless in the face of the awful consequences. Too frequently, pedestrian accident victims succumb to their injuries, leaving their families to deal with mounting expenses, including funeral costs, not to mention the devastating loss of a family member.

You may have numerous legal options if you or a loved one have been injured or killed in a pedestrian accident. After talking with a Chicago vehicle accident lawyer, you may discover that you are entitled to full and appropriate monetary compensation.
