Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in Chicagoland

Despite a general drop in deaths from other forms of motor vehicle accidents, pedestrian fatalities have increased by around 36% in the US in recent years. Chicago and Springfield, two of the country’s most populous and walkable cities, are located in Illinois. And sadly, the danger of death or severe injury for pedestrians is increased on the congested streets of these highly-populated areas.

Illinois’ Cook County has the highest incidence of pedestrian fatalities in the whole state. In Cook County, at least 120 pedestrians died in 2019, the most in at least five years.

Due to their ongoing physical pain, severe emotional anguish, and/or significant financial commitments, victims of horrific accidents can feel helpless thereafter. Many pedestrian accident victims pass away, leaving behind bereaved families and mounting funeral costs.

If you or a loved one was hurt or killed in a pedestrian accident, you may be eligible to file a lawsuit. After speaking with a Chicago car accident attorney, you could find that you’re entitled to full and fair financial recompense.

The Illinois Wrongful Death Act enables those who have lost a loved one in an automobile accident brought on by the carelessness or recklessness of another driver to make a claim for damages. The plaintiff’s family and dependents are entitled to compensation in the event of successful litigation.
