Skokie, IL – Minor Injuries Reported in Box Truck Accident on Edens Expy Near Morton Grove

Skokie, IL - Minor Injuries Reported in Box Truck Accident on Edens Expy Near Morton Grove

Skokie, IL (August 15, 2022) – A box truck was crushed and impaled beneath an overpass on the Edens Expressway on Wednesday in the late afternoon, causing a handful of victim injuries.

Around 4:00 p.m., the Church Street underpass on the inbound side of the Edens, close to the border of Skokie and Morton Grove, received a call from the Illinois State Police.

A box truck was being towed by a flatbed tow vehicle, but the box truck was too tall to go through the Church Street underpass’ 14-foot 2-inch clearance.

The state police claim that when the box truck hit the bridge, bits of concrete fell from it. Under the underpass, the destroyed freight vehicle was left unattended as the cab and chassis of the box truck tumbled into the roadside ditch.

The tow truck’s cab seemed to remain upright on the bridge. Four automobiles were involved in the collision, according to state police, although no one was badly hurt. Despite it being unclear if they were taken to a hospital, at least two people with mild to moderate injuries were assessed by EMTs at the site.

All lanes of the approaching Edens were initially closed, forcing traffic to the left shoulder. Two lanes of traffic were eventually reopened, but the collision investigation is still ongoing.

We are hoping for a full recovery for those who were hurt.

Serious Truck Accidents in Chicagoland

Semi-trucks must navigate congested city streets, interstates, and expressways in order to move commodities across the nation. The public’s safety is threatened by the presence of tractor-trailers on the roads in our country. Tractor-trailers are much larger and heavier than the great majority of other vehicles on the road, which increases the risk that an accident involving one of these vehicles may be deadly.

Authorities believe that more than 2,000 of the 12,200 incidents involving semi-trucks that occurred in 2018 resulted in fatalities. According to the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), semi-truck incidents cause a disproportionately high number of deaths while making up a small fraction of total collisions.

The majority of the costs are carried by the injured party and their family when someone else’s carelessness results in injuries in a semi-truck accident. In the face of terrible emotional anguish and exorbitant medical costs, the victims of these often preventable tragedies may feel helpless.
