Waukegan, IL – Injuries Reported in 20-Car Collision on I-94 Near IL/WI State Line

Waukegan, IL - Injuries Reported in 20-Car Collision on I-94 Near IL/WI State Line

Waukegan, IL (January 27, 2023) – A collision involving up to 20 drivers took place on Friday afternoon on the Tri-State tollways at Russell Road, not far from Kenosha and the Wisconsin state line, causing I-94 to be blocked.

According to early information provided by the Illinois State Police, troopers responded to a major vehicle collision that occurred at the Wisconsin/Illinois border at around 1:45 p.m.

When the troopers arrived, the freeway was nearly completely blocked on the northbound side. Several semi-trucks and vehicles apparently collided due to the slick wintry road conditions. EMTs also responded and transported at least a few injured victims to a local hospital, but the total number of victims and their current conditions are unclear.

I-94 westbound was late reopened, and all closures were completed as of 5:30 p.m., per state police.

The towing of most of the damaged vehicles followed shortly thereafter. In the meantime, an investigation remains ongoing, and officers with the Illinois State Police have not yet released additional details about the cause of the wreck.

Our thoughts remain with the injured victims at this time.

Car Accidents in Chicagoland

According to official statistics, there were roughly 95,000 car accidents in Illinois in 2016. Ultimately, around 900 catastrophic wrecks resulted in the deaths of over 980 victims. Even more tragically, Illinois authorities say that most fatal automobile accidents across our state result from careless driving or reckless driving, including drunk driving, colliding with a stationary object, or driving too fast for conditions.

Moreover, in Cook County alone, the majority of traffic-related fatalities and injuries occur on or near heavily-trafficked roadways and thoroughfares. Recent statistics provided by traffic analysts in Illinois reveal that about a quarter of all traffic accidents in our state occur in the greater Chicago metropolitan area.

Sadly, those who are injured in vehicle accidents often pay the price for other people’s negligence. Victims who suffer from injuries caused by another driver’s reckless behavior must also manage the rising costs of medical care in addition to the stress and frustration that come with recovering.

Thankfully, those who have endured these injuries or lost a loved one may be entitled to financial recompense. If you weren’t at fault for an accident but sustained injuries or other damages, get in touch with a Chicago automobile accident attorney right away.

In Illinois, if another driver negligently or inattentively caused an auto accident that ultimately resulted in your injury, they should be held accountable for your medical bills and other costs.
