Burbank, IL – Denise Blidy Killed in Bicycle Accident at 77th St & Central Ave

Burbank, IL - Denise Blidy Killed in Bicycle Accident at 77th St & Central Ave

Burbank, IL (September 7, 2022) – Earlier this week, a biker was killed in a collision with a police car in the southwest suburb of Burbank.

On Monday morning, around 10:30 a.m., an accident occurred near 77th Street and Central Avenue intersection. The collision occurred near St. Laurence High School, though school wasn’t in session on the Labor Day holiday.

Denise Blidy, 66, was named as the victim by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. The police have not said whether Blidy drove into the police car or if the officer was the one to crash into Blidy’s bicycle.

A nearby resident snapped a picture of the unfolding events, including the bicycle lying in front of the police car. Police have not released any new information about the incident yet but are still examining the causes of the crash.

Our hearts go out to Denise Blidy’s family and friends at this time of loss.

Deadly Chicago-area Bicycle Accidents

Bicycle accidents are an epidemic in Chicago, causing serious worry for city planners. State statistics reveal that between 2012 and 2019, six bicyclists a year were killed in Chicago. In addition, there has been an uptick in the number of fatal accidents.

In addition, bicycles that collide with cars often have life-threatening injuries, including concussions, paralysis, and even death. These people may need immediate medical attention, such as surgery or intense therapy, after which they may not fully recover for many weeks or months.

Numerous victims tragically perish as a result of their wounds. As if that weren’t bad enough, when these people die in accidents that weren’t their fault, their loved ones are also hit with significant financial and emotional costs.

It is possible to pursue several legal remedies if you or a loved one were injured in a bicycle accident resulting from another person’s carelessness. Contact a Chicago car accident lawyer right away if you or a loved one has been killed in an accident that could have been prevented.

Wrongful death claims in Illinois are typically brought by the deceased’s estate executor, who is usually a close relative. According to the state’s Wrongful Death Act, any reckless or unlawful act that ends in a fatality might be grounds for a wrongful death lawsuit in Illinois. Those who rely on the plaintiff get damages if the plaintiff wins.

Because most wrongful death claims have a two-year statute of limitations (from the date of death), it is crucial that family members and other representatives get in touch with an attorney as soon as possible after a tragic incident.

  • "Excellent Law Firm!"

I cannot recommend D&W Law Group enough. From the moment I met the team, I felt confident that I was in good hands. They kept in touch with me every step of the way. My attorneys fought the insurance company, and we settled my case without having to go to court. Excellent law firm!

  • "Great Settlement"

When I had my accident, the insurance company dragged its feet. I tried to handle the case on my own. I am so glad I decided to hire D&W Law Group. They kept my case moving, and I was awarded a great settlement. I hope I never need an attorney again, but if I do I will call them.
