Deadly Pedestrian Crashes Caused By Hit-and-Run Drivers in Chicago
In recent years, the number of pedestrian fatalities and severe injuries has increased by more than 30% throughout the nation, despite a general drop in the number of deaths caused by other types of automobile accidents. This unfortunate trend can be seen across Illinois, which includes some of the country’s most populous cities, such as Chicago, Springfield, and Bloomington. Pedestrians in certain metropolitan regions are at a greater risk of severe injury or death as a result of automobile collisions.
Pedestrian fatalities in Cook County are typically among the highest in the state. According to authorities from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), pedestrian deaths reached a five-year high in 2019, with over 105 fatalities in Cook County alone.
