Motor Vehicle Crashes in the Greater Chicago Area
There were almost 95,000 vehicle accidents in Illinois in 2016, according to state data. Nearly 980 people lost their lives as a direct consequence of over 900 catastrophic events. Most fatal car crashes include one or more people being killed because of factors including drunk driving, hitting a stationary object, or traveling at an unsafely high speed.
Most traffic-related deaths and injuries in Cook County have place in or around highly used thoroughfares. Recent data released by the state of Illinois shows that the greater Chicago metropolitan region accounts for almost a quarter of all traffic incidents in the state.
Sadly, victims of car accidents often bear the consequences of others’ carelessness. Patients with mental illness not only have to deal with the stress and grief of their condition, but also the growing expenses of treatment.
Those who have suffered or lost a loved one as a consequence of these injuries may be eligible for financial compensation. Contact a Chicago car accident attorney without delay if you were not at fault for the incident.
In Illinois, if another motorist caused your injuries in a car crash due to their carelessness or inattention, they should pay for your medical bills and other expenses, and they should face punishment. Plaintiffs involved in a vehicle accident in Illinois should contact an attorney as soon as possible after the incident, since doing so on their own may make it harder to get a satisfactory settlement from the other driver or their insurance provider.
