Auto-Pedestrian Accident Deaths in Illinois

Pedestrian deaths have grown by more than 30% across the United States in recent years, despite a general drop in the number of deaths caused by other forms of vehicle accidents. This tragic trend is mirrored across Illinois, home to some of the country’s biggest cities and walkable locales, including Chicago, Springfield, and Bloomington. Unfortunately, pedestrians are at a much higher risk of serious injury or death on the congested streets of these highly populated areas.

In fact, pedestrian deaths in Cook County are higher than any other in the state. Authorities report that pedestrian fatalities hit a five-year high in 2019, with over 100 victim deaths in the Cook County region alone.

Faced with the stressful aftermath of a major accident, the victims impacted may feel as if they have nowhere to turn, whether they are dealing with nagging health problems and physical pain or expensive medical bills. All too often, the victims of pedestrian accidents die from their injuries, leaving their bereaved families to cope with mounting expenses, loss of earning potential, and funerary costs on top of the incomparable anguish of losing a loved one.

If you’ve been hurt or experienced the death of your loved one due to a pedestrian collision, you may be able to pursue a range of legal options moving forward. When you contact a Chicago car accident attorney, you may discover that you’re entitled to a fair, full monetary award.
