Chicago, IL – Driver Hospitalized After Truck Accident on I-57 Near Halsted St

Chicago, IL - Driver Hospitalized After Truck Accident on I-57 Near Halsted St

Chicago, IL (April 8, 2023) – On Friday afternoon, April 7, a serious collision on I-57 resulted in the rollover of a tractor-trailer vehicle and a handful of victim injuries.

The collision occurred at 4:15 p.m. on inbound Interstate 57 near Halsted Street in the Fernwood area of the South Side.

A semi-trailer apparently overturned in the left lane, and another driver ran off the road as a result.

The semi’s tractor caught fire one hour after the initial collision. Initially, a fire rescue team responded and extinguished the blaze. However, the fire intensified, causing more firefighters to respond and shut down the highway as they battled the flames.

One individual was transported to the hospital for minor injuries, though it’s unclear whether they were traveling in the tractor-trailer or in the other vehicle involved.

Officers with the Chicago Police Department have not provided further details, though their investigation is ongoing in the interim.

Our thoughts are with the injured victim, and we hope for their full recovery at this time.

Highway Traffic Accidents in Chicago

Chicago is the third biggest city in the United States, with a population of three million. Needless to say, the booming population and, as a result, heavy traffic volume in Chicago cause hundreds of car accidents yearly.

Despite the coronavirus epidemic, stay-at-home orders, and social isolation, traffic-related mortality increased. By 2020, the Illinois Department of Transportation predicts speeding will have increased significantly, placing more drivers in danger.

Several people were killed on the city’s roadways because of intoxicated drivers, high speeds, and other forms of irresponsible driving. For motorists, Cook County is the most hazardous area in Chicago.

That makes those who suffer harm in car accidents due to someone else’s carelessness more vulnerable. In many cases, they must also pay for their own medical care out of pocket. It’s not only the physical and financial toll of a catastrophic accident that may take its toll on a person’s mental health; the prospect of a lengthy road to recovery from excruciating pain can be traumatic in and of itself.

Thankfully, when an accident victim can prove that another driver’s carelessness or negligence caused or significantly contributed to their injuries, they may seek financial restitution in Illinois. Hiring an attorney for an accident as soon as feasible is crucial if you want to receive a fair settlement from the insurance company or motorist who caused your accident in Illinois.

  • "Great Settlement"

When I had my accident, the insurance company dragged its feet. I tried to handle the case on my own. I am so glad I decided to hire D&W Law Group. They kept my case moving, and I was awarded a great settlement. I hope I never need an attorney again, but if I do I will call them.
