Chicago, IL – Four Hurt in CTA Bus Shelter Accident at 16th St & Kedzie Ave

Chicago, IL - Four Hurt in CTA Bus Shelter Accident at 16th St & Kedzie Ave

Chicago, IL (May 7, 2023) — On Sunday afternoon, a vehicle crashed through a CTA bus shelter on the West Side of Chicago, injuring four individuals, three of whom were reported to be in critical condition at an area hospital.

The Chicago Fire Department reported that at around 4:15 p.m., two drivers collided at the intersection of West 16th Street and South Kedzie Avenue in the North Lawndale community.

According to the Chicago Police Department, a 42-year-old male was driving west on 16th Street when he lost control of his car, hitting a bus shelter and a 36-year-old pedestrian.

The man’s automobile kept going west and crashed with another sedan driven by a 56-year-old woman coming up Kedzie from the north.

Police say that three victims were taken to local hospitals by CFD in critical condition. A CTA worker is also among those seriously hurt.

Authorities did not immediately release more details regarding the collision, but officers added that charges are pending. An investigation remains ongoing in the meantime.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their loved ones.

Injury-Causing Accidents in Illinois

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that vehicle rollovers account for more than 31% of all fatal traffic collisions, although they’re involved in just 4% of all automobile accidents on the whole. In fact, in 2018, about 11,000 car passengers were killed in rollover accidents, accounting for nearly a third of all collision deaths that year. On roads with a speed limit of 55 miles per hour or above, about 91% of all these incidents involving rolling vehicles occur.

While any kind of accident may represent a threat to the basic safety of the individuals involved, rollover accidents are arguably one of the most severe accident types. A key explanation for this is that when a car rolls over, the likelihood of victims receiving severe neck and head injuries rises considerably.

Rollover crashes may be caused by a variety of circumstances, including driver mistakes and faulty vehicle components. Regardless of the cause, the repercussions of these accidents may be disastrous for the victims. In addition to excessive medical expenses and extensive property damage, wounded people must also struggle with lost wages. Protect your legal rights by contacting an Illinois automobile accident attorney if you were hurt in a car rollover caused by someone else’s negligence.

Roof caving, cracked windshields, and car fires are among the most hazardous characteristics of a vehicle rolling. Regrettably, this means victims may sustain serious injuries, such as full-body trauma and shattered bones, internal bleeding, organ damage, or even death.

If you were involved in a rollover collision, you may suffer debilitating injuries and face a long, difficult road to recovery.

Needless to say, our Chicago law firm’s personal injury lawyers realize how traumatic these incidents can be for anyone. This is why we strive diligently to aid in our clients’ recovery.

  • "Excellent Law Firm!"

I cannot recommend D&W Law Group enough. From the moment I met the team, I felt confident that I was in good hands. They kept in touch with me every step of the way. My attorneys fought the insurance company, and we settled my case without having to go to court. Excellent law firm!

  • "Great Settlement"

When I had my accident, the insurance company dragged its feet. I tried to handle the case on my own. I am so glad I decided to hire D&W Law Group. They kept my case moving, and I was awarded a great settlement. I hope I never need an attorney again, but if I do I will call them.
