Chicago, IL - Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accident on Arthington St Leaves Woman in Critical Condition

Chicago, IL (May 9, 2022) – A woman was rushed to an area hospital in critical condition after a hit-and-run accident took place in Chicago’s Lawndale neighborhood early Monday morning, May 9.

A spokesperson with the Chicago Police Department said that a pedestrian, identified only as a 28-year-old woman, was standing on the street at the 4700 block of West Arthington Street around 1:45 a.m. Shortly thereafter, the driver of a white SUV struck her, leaving her seriously injured, and then fled from the site of the incident.

EMTs transferred the woman by ambulance to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.

No arrests have yet been made, and CPD officers are still searching for the driver. Investigators asked any witnesses to the wreck to come forward and contact the police as soon as they can.

Our thoughts go out to the woman who was hurt in this crash. We hope for her speedy recovery.

Pedestrian Wrecks Caused By Hit-and-Run Drivers in Illinois

Pedestrian deaths and serious injuries have surged by more than 30% across the country in recent years, despite a general decline in the number of deaths caused by other forms of car accidents. This tragic trend is reflected across the state of Illinois, which is home to some of the country’s biggest cities, including Chicago, Springfield, and Bloomington. In these urban areas, pedestrians tend to be at a higher risk of serious injury or death in vehicle incidents.

In fact, pedestrian deaths in Cook County frequently rank first in the state. Pedestrian fatalities hit a five-year high in 2019, according to officials from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), with over 105 fatalities in Cook County alone.

Unfortunately, victims and their families pay the price when they are injured or killed in accidents caused by the irresponsible conduct of others.

In the aftermath of a major accident, people impacted may feel as if they have nowhere to turn, whether they are dealing with devastating emotional trauma, debilitating physical injuries, or expensive hospital bills. Injured victims and bereaved families frequently face an uphill battle with at-fault drivers, particularly hit-and-run motorists, and insurance companies, forcing them to deal with unthinkable anguish.

If you or a loved one has been injured in one of these incidents, however, you may have a variety of legal remedies available to you moving forward.

When you retain the services of a skilled Illinois accident lawyer, you may discover that you have legal redress if you’ve been injured or a loved one has died as a result of another person’s irresponsible actions.
