Chicago, IL - I-57 Site of Auto Accident, Injuries at 147th St

Chicago, IL (April 9, 2023) – On the afternoon of Sunday, April 9, two cars collided on the Inbound side of Interstate 57, resulting in victim injuries and prompting an urgent response from the Chicago Police Department.

Around 3:10 p.m., police officers arrived on the Inbound side of I-57 at the exit to 147th Street to begin their investigation. The responding authorities reported significant delays in traffic back to 159th Street, and emergency medical technicians rushed to the location to assess the situation and treat any wounded people there. Chicago Fire Rescue units also arrived to extinguish a vehicle fire caused by the initial crash.

No official count has been made of the injured, although news footage seemed to show at least two individuals being taken to a local hospital.

The police have not provided any updated information. The Chicago Police Department has asked that anybody with further details about the event get in touch as they proceed with their investigation at this time.

Our thoughts go out to the injured victims and their families.

Injury Car Accidents in Chicagoland

In 2013, there were more than 97,000 accidents in the state of Illinois, resulting in the deaths of more than 1,025 people. According to studies of traffic patterns in the state, the top three causes of fatal car accidents are inattentive or reckless driving, colliding with a stationary object, and excessive speed.

Although fatalities and serious injuries can occur on two-lane roads, the vast majority occur on four- and six-lane highways in Cook County. Furthermore, 25% of all accidents in Illinois occur in the Chicago metropolitan area.

Accident victims frequently bear the costs of another driver’s negligence. Furthermore, after these unfortunate incidents, damage to one’s mind and wallet may be just as damaging as broken bones. Any Chicago resident who sustains injuries in a car accident resulting from another driver’s carelessness should, of course, contact an attorney right away.

In Illinois, if you suffer injuries as a result of an auto accident that was not your fault, you can file a claim for compensation. An Illinois personal injury lawyer can explain your options and rights following a car crash. For instance, settling for a fair sum with the careless driver’s insurance company may be challenging if you try to do it on your own.
