Bicycle Accident Deaths in Chicago

City officials in Chicago have recognized a serious problem with the city’s current rate of bicycle accidents. Between 2012 and 2019, the state of Illinois recorded an average of six deaths per year involving motorcyclists in Chicago. There has been an uptick in deadly accidents.

Brain injury, paralysis, and even death are all common outcomes for bicycle riders involved in crashes with automobiles. Some people may not fully recover for weeks or months despite prompt medical intervention like surgery or intensive treatment.

Sadly, many patients do not make it through their ordeals. When someone dies because of a reckless driver, the emotional and financial strains on their loved ones are compounded.

If you or a loved one were hurt in a bicycle accident that was someone else’s fault, you might take legal action in a variety of different ways. If you or a loved one has been injured in an avoidable Chicago vehicle accident, you should immediately speak with an attorney.

A close relative of the dead will commonly serve as the executor in a wrongful death case filed in Illinois. The basic premise of a wrongful death claim is that the deceased’s death was the direct result of another party’s carelessness or wrongdoing.

Since the statute of limitations for wrongful death claims is often two years (from the date of death, for example), it is vital for family members and other representatives to get in touch with an attorney as soon as possible following a fatal incident.
