Deadly Pedestrian Accidents in Illinois
Across the country, pedestrian deaths have increased by more than 30% in recent years, despite the fact that the number of deaths caused by other types of vehicle accidents has generally decreased. This unfortunate trend is mirrored throughout Illinois, home to some of the busiest cities in the United States, including Chicago, Springfield, and Bloomington, where pedestrians face an increased risk of serious injury or death in auto collisions.
In fact, the Cook County area consistently leads the state in pedestrian deaths. According to officials from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), pedestrian fatalities reached a five-year high in 2019, with over 100 fatalities in Cook County alone. Sadly, when victims suffer injuries or are killed in wrecks caused by the reckless actions of others, they and their family members are the ones who pay the price.
Whether they’re forced to cope with emotional trauma or exorbitant financial expenses, those affected by these serious incidents may feel like they have nowhere to turn in the aftermath of a serious accident.
