Chicago, IL – Marsha Frankel Killed in Pedestrian Accident at Wabash Ave & Roosevelt Rd

Chicago, IL - Marsha Frankel Killed in Pedestrian Accident at Wabash Ave & Roosevelt Rd

Chicago, IL (February 20, 2023) — A FedEx truck accident killed a woman two blocks from her home over the weekend, according to officers with the Chicago Police Department.

The Medical Examiner’s Office of Chicago County identified the woman as 72-year-old Marsha Frankel.

The FedEx truck, driven by a 31-year-old man, turned onto Wabash Avenue at Roosevelt Road just as Frankel was crossing the street, police said.

Frankel, who authorities say was using the crosswalk, was hit by the FedEx van and stuck underneath it. She was transferred in serious condition to Northwestern Hospital, where she was eventually declared decreased.

There is no news on whether citations were issued, though the Major Accident Investigation Unit is still investigating the incident.

Our deepest condolences go out to Marsha Frankel’s family at this time.

Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in Chicagoland

Despite a general drop in the number of deaths caused by other kinds of car accidents, pedestrian fatalities in the United States have climbed by more than 30% in recent years. This heinous tendency can be seen across Illinois, which is home to some of the country’s most populated cities and walkable areas, such as Chicago, Springfield, and Bloomington. Pedestrians are sadly at a much higher risk of serious injury or death on these heavily crowded roadways.

Cook County, in fact, has the highest incidence of pedestrian deaths in the state. According to officials, pedestrian deaths in 2019 hit a five-year high, with over 100 dead in Cook County alone.

While dealing with the stressful aftermath of a major accident, victims may feel as if they have nowhere to turn, whether they are dealing with ongoing health difficulties, physical pain, or significant medical expenses. Pedestrian accident victims may die as a consequence of their injuries, leaving bereaved families to struggle with mounting medical expenditures, lost earning potential, and burial expenses, in addition to the unimaginable grief of losing a loved one.

If you or a loved one has been wounded or killed in a pedestrian accident, you may be able to pursue a number of legal options in the future. When you consult with a Chicago car accident lawyer, you may discover that you are entitled to full and reasonable monetary compensation.
