Chicago, IL – Monica Eason Killed in Pedestrian Accident on S Pulaski Rd

Chicago, IL - Monica Eason Killed in Pedestrian Accident on S Pulaski Rd

Chicago, IL (November 22, 2022) – Chicago police said that a 42-year-old female pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run incident in West Garfield Park on Monday evening, November 21.

The woman was walking west at a crosswalk in the 900 block of South Pulaski Road just after 8:30 p.m. when she was struck by a tan four-door SUV, according to the Chicago Police Department.

Police said that the SUV kept heading south on Pulaski.

The victim was transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. She was later identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office as Monica Eason, who resided in East Garfield Park.

The event is being investigated by the Major Accidents section.

In the meantime, police at the site were searching for evidence, including a sneaker left in the crosswalk. The suspect car is thought to be a Jeep from 1995 to 2000, and CPD published a photograph of it on Tuesday morning.

Our deepest condolences go out to Monica Eason’s loved ones and family members.

Chicagoland Pedestrian Accident Fatalities

Deaths of pedestrians in the United States have increased by around 36% in recent years, despite an overall drop in mortality from other motor vehicle accidents. The state of Illinois is home to many major U.S. cities, including Chicago and Springfield, both of which rank highly in terms of population and walkability. Even more so than motorists, pedestrians in these areas are at greater danger of being killed or seriously injured while traversing the congested sidewalks and roads.

When comparing counties in Illinois, Cook County has the highest incidence of pedestrian deaths. This year has already seen the highest number of pedestrian fatalities in Cook County in five years or more, with at least 120 lives lost.

Victims of a catastrophic accident may feel helpless in the face of their ongoing physical pain, intense emotional anguish, and/or substantial financial liabilities. All too often, these victims die, leaving behind grieving loved ones and a mountain of medical bills.

In the event of a pedestrian accident resulting in injury or death, a claim for damages may be possible. After talking with a Chicago car accident attorney, you may find that you are entitled to appropriate monetary compensation.

Victims of traffic accidents caused by the carelessness or recklessness of another driver in Illinois may bring a lawsuit under the state’s Wrongful Death Act. After successful litigation, the victim or their loved ones may secure financial recompense.
