Chicago, IL – One Hospitalized After Semi-Truck Accident on I-80 Near Kedzie Ave

Chicago, IL - One Hospitalized After Semi-Truck Accident on I-80 Near Kedzie Ave

Chicago, IL (April 10, 2023) – On Monday afternoon, April 10, all eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 were closed at Kedzie Avenue near the south suburb of Hazel Crest after three semi-truck drivers collided, injuring one person.

Three tractor-trailer vehicles collided around 2:20 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-80 near Kedzie, according to troopers with the Illinois State Police.

One person was apparently transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, though their current condition is not known.

All I-80 eastbound lanes remained closed until shortly before 4:00 p.m. In the interim, the investigation into the cause of the wreck is ongoing, and the ISP has provided no further details.

The injured victims are in our thoughts. We are hopeful for their complete recovery.

Semi-Truck Accidents in Chicagoland

In addition to navigating the twists and turns of the nation’s busy city streets, interstates, expressways, and highways, semi-trucks transport goods throughout the country. Semi-trailers are ubiquitous on American roads, but they also present a danger to drivers and pedestrians. Tractor-trailers are so much bigger and heavier than the typical car on the road that an accident between the two might swiftly become lethal.

Over 2,000 people were killed in accidents involving semi-trucks in 2018, according to the police. Although semi-truck accidents account for a relatively small share of total collisions, IDOT reports that they account for a disproportionately high number of fatalities.

When someone else’s carelessness causes injuries in a semi-truck accident, the victims and their families take the financial hit. Victims of these frequently avoidable tragedies may feel helpless in the face of crippling mental anguish and expensive medical care.

If you or a loved one is injured due to any of these circumstances, you may be eligible for various legal remedies. Seek legal counsel without delay if you or a loved one were hurt in a truck accident in the Chicago region caused by another driver’s carelessness.
