Chicago, IL – One Killed, Driver Hospitalized After Two-Car Wreck on Dan Ryan at 83rd St
Chicago, IL (December 7, 2022) – On Tuesday, December 6, a vehicle exploded in flames after colliding with another car and a wall, killing at least one person, according to the Illinois State Police.
The accident happened at around 3:00 a.m. on the Dan Ryan Expressway between 83rd Street and 87th Street, according to police. Both vehicles were traveling in the left lane when they collided, crashed into the median, and caught fire.
One of the drivers, who was behind the wheel of a pickup truck, was sent to the hospital in fair condition after escaping their vehicle before EMTs arrived. However, paramedics added that someone else in the same vehicle was pronounced dead at the site of the wreck.
Due to the debris and fire, both sides of the CTA Red Line had to be closed for several hours. The CTA and area near the intersection have both reopened, but the accident inquiry is still underway, and no other information has been supplied.
We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the deceased victim’s family. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time.
