Chicago, IL - One Killed, Six Hospitalized in Head-on Crash on Southeastern Ave

Chicago, IL (September 6, 2022) – One person was killed, and six others were hurt in an incident outside Chicago on Monday night near Hammond.

Among the wounded were four children, per Hammond officials.

The collision was reported in the 7000 block of Southeastern Avenue in Hammond at around 6:45 p.m. Police say that eyewitnesses told officers that a black car was traveling at high speeds north on Southeastern Avenue and attempting to pass another car when it veered into oncoming traffic and collided with a gray Jeep.

According to the police report, one of the drivers, a 47-year-old male, was declared deceased at the site of the incident. The four children, who were among the six passengers in the Jeep, were rushed to Comer Children’s Hospital, where their conditions were reportedly stabilized. Both the Jeep’s driver and another passenger were hurt, but they didn’t need medical attention.

As of Tuesday morning, toxicology results were still pending. No street racing activity was suspected by the police, however, who are presently working to investigate the collision.

Our hearts go out to the deceased victim’s loved ones. We hope that the people injured will make a full and speedy recovery.

  • "Great Settlement"

When I had my accident, the insurance company dragged its feet. I tried to handle the case on my own. I am so glad I decided to hire D&W Law Group. They kept my case moving, and I was awarded a great settlement. I hope I never need an attorney again, but if I do I will call them.
