Chicago, IL – Semi-Truck Accident on Kennedy Expy Injures Victims, Shuts Down Metra

Chicago, IL - Semi-Truck Accident on Kennedy Expy Injures Victims, Shuts Down Metra

Chicago, IL (April 25, 2023) – On Tuesday morning, April 25, a collision on the Kennedy Expressway impacted adjacent Metra services and may have left a handful of victims with injuries.

A semi-truck and another vehicle collided on the Kennedy Expressway westbound lanes past Division Street. The adjoining Metra rails used by the Metra Union Pacific North and Union Pacific Northwest lines were also affected by debris from the crash.

Around 5:15 a.m. local time, Metra said that the rails had been checked and train service would resume as usual. In the meantime, several EMTs and fire rescue teams responded to the crash. At least one person was reportedly hurt in the wreck, but the victims’ current conditions are unknown.

An investigation remains ongoing and is currently being handled by officers with the Chicago Police Department.

The injured victims are in our thoughts. We are hopeful for their complete recovery.

Commercial Truck Crashes Across Chicago

Semi-trucks are used to carry commodities throughout the nation, which means they must also negotiate the ins and outs of bustling city streets, interstates, expressways, and highways. Needless to say, semi-trailers are common on our country’s roadways, but they also pose a risk to public safety. Because tractor-trailers are much larger and heavier than the great majority of other automobiles on the road, a deadly situation may evolve quickly in the case of a collision.

About 12,200 semi-truck-related events occurred in 2018, and police say that over 2,000 of these incidents ended in fatalities. According to the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), although semi-truck accidents make up a very small percentage of all collisions, they result in a disproportionately high number of deaths.

Regardless of the circumstances leading up to a semi-truck accident, victims and their families bear the brunt of the costs when they sustain injuries due to someone else’s negligence. Those who these often-preventable incidents have hurt could feel helpless in the face of debilitating emotional suffering and high medical costs.

Fortunately, you may be entitled to a number of legal remedies if you or a member of your family suffers injuries as a consequence of any of these situations. If you or a member of your family was wounded in a truck accident in the Chicagoland area that was brought on by someone else’s negligence, you should contact a lawyer as quickly as you can.

  • "Excellent Law Firm!"

I cannot recommend D&W Law Group enough. From the moment I met the team, I felt confident that I was in good hands. They kept in touch with me every step of the way. My attorneys fought the insurance company, and we settled my case without having to go to court. Excellent law firm!

  • "Great Settlement"

When I had my accident, the insurance company dragged its feet. I tried to handle the case on my own. I am so glad I decided to hire D&W Law Group. They kept my case moving, and I was awarded a great settlement. I hope I never need an attorney again, but if I do I will call them.
