Chicago, IL – Several Hospitalized After Apt Complex Fire on Edgewater Rd

Chicago, IL - Several Hospitalized After Apt Complex Fire on Edgewater Rd

Chicago, IL (October 14, 2022) – Investigators are still working to determine the exact origin and cause of a two-alarm fire that started on the top floor of a 44-unit apartment building at 8011 Edgewater Road just before midnight on October 13 and resulted in a complete evacuation of the tenants, as well as a handful of injuries.

Fire gutted two top-floor units of the U-shaped building’s west wing, according to North Riverside Fire Chief Bob McDermott, as well as the top-floor landing of a stairwell serving units in that part of the building. Fire also damaged another apartment on the opposite side of the landing.

While the fire was contained to a relatively small portion of the 1920s-era courtyard building, McDermott said heavy smoke traveled throughout the structure, forcing the emergency evacuation of the entire apartment complex.

A handful of residents overcome by smoke were taken to hospitals, said McDermott, but he did not have an exact count.

Officials are still unclear on the exact number of people displaced and injured by the fire. As of noon on Oct. 14, village officials were still trying to obtain a tenant list from the building’s management company.

An investigation is currently underway and active at the moment.

We wish a speedy recovery to all injured victims.

  • "Excellent Law Firm!"

I cannot recommend D&W Law Group enough. From the moment I met the team, I felt confident that I was in good hands. They kept in touch with me every step of the way. My attorneys fought the insurance company, and we settled my case without having to go to court. Excellent law firm!

  • "Great Settlement"

When I had my accident, the insurance company dragged its feet. I tried to handle the case on my own. I am so glad I decided to hire D&W Law Group. They kept my case moving, and I was awarded a great settlement. I hope I never need an attorney again, but if I do I will call them.
