Chicago, IL - Six Hospitalized in Multi-Car Collision Involving Prom Limo at 51st St & Ashland Ave

Chicago, IL (May 1, 2022) – Six people were rushed to an area medical center on Friday evening, April 29, after a multi-vehicle crash took place in Back of the Yards.

The accident occurred at the intersection of 51st Street and Ashland Avenue and reportedly involved a prom limo. Chicago Police Department officers did not say how many vehicles collided, but there were a total of 14 people involved.

EMTs transported two of the victims to the University of Chicago Medical Center, both in serious or critical condition. Two others were taken to St. Bernard Hospital in good condition, and two more were taken to Holy Cross Hospital in good condition. The other eight people were evaluated at the scene for minor injuries or declined medical treatment.

The events leading up to the collision remain under investigation, and CPD officers did not comment on the cause of the wreck.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families. We hope for their full recovery.

Intersection Car Accidents in Illinois

Every year, officials with the Federal Highway Administration (FHA) report more than 2.5 million auto accidents occurring at intersections, with most involving left turns or distracted drivers. Moreover, 40% of all vehicle crashes nationwide involve intersections, according to authorities. This is the second-largest category of auto accidents, topped only by rear-end collisions.

Unfortunately, a large number of car wrecks, especially those at busy intersections, happen in Cook County. In fact, state officials say that nearly 25% of all Illinois auto accidents occur in and around the Chicago metro region.

Regardless of the cause of a collision, when victims suffer injuries caused by the reckless actions of others, they and their family members pay the price. Faced with devastating emotional trauma and expensive medical bills, those affected by these serious incidents may feel like they have nowhere to turn.

Thankfully, if you’ve sustained injuries in one of these accidents or even lost a loved one, you may have a number of legal options available to you in the aftermath. When you’ve been involved in a car crash that’s occurred through no fault of your own, you should reach out to a car accident attorney in Chicago as soon as possible.

Chicago Personal Injury Lawyer

In the state of Illinois, drivers are required to carry liability insurance in the event that they cause injury or damage in an accident. However, serious accidents causing major injuries can greatly exceed the minimum insurance amounts stipulated by state law. Though drivers are urged to carry more liability insurance than the mandatory minimum, not all motorists follow this recommendation. Occasionally, drivers who cause major accidents are even uninsured.

What’s more, regardless of the coverage a driver may carry, insurance companies will typically try to offer a low cash amount to quickly settle their liability with victims. This is particularly true when those victims attempt to negotiate without an attorney.

Here at the D&W Law Group, we know what it takes to build a successful accident claim, as our attorneys are familiar with the ins and outs of the complicated Illinois legal system. • "Excellent Law Firm!"

I cannot recommend D&W Law Group enough. From the moment I met the team, I felt confident that I was in good hands. They kept in touch with me every step of the way. My attorneys fought the insurance company, and we settled my case without having to go to court. Excellent law firm!

  • "Great Settlement"

When I had my accident, the insurance company dragged its feet. I tried to handle the case on my own. I am so glad I decided to hire D&W Law Group. They kept my case moving, and I was awarded a great settlement. I hope I never need an attorney again, but if I do I will call them.
