Chicago, IL - Six Injured After Hit-and-Run Driver Crashes into Old Town Restaurant Terrace on Wells St

Chicago, IL (July 9, 2022) – Six people sustained injuries after a vehicle went over a curb and smashed onto a restaurant terrace on Chicago’s Near North Side on Friday, July 8.

The driver behind the wheel of a silver Lexus was traveling southbound around the 1200 block of North Wells Street, located in Old Town, at 10:30 p.m. when he tried to pass the driver of a white Toyota Prius traveling in the same way, according to police.

Authorities say the Lexus driver then struck the front end of the Prius, lost control, and went over the curb before striking many individuals eating on an outdoor terrace.

Five wounded people, including three women and two men, were transferred to local hospitals in excellent to fair condition. The Prius driver was not hurt and rejected EMS care on the site.

Firefighters claim the Lexus was stolen, and the driver escaped on foot after the Lexus completely stopped. Nobody is in custody at this time. However, Area Three investigators are now examining the facts surrounding the incident.

Our heartfelt sympathies and best wishes for a fast recovery go out to the injured victims and their families.

  • "Great Settlement"

When I had my accident, the insurance company dragged its feet. I tried to handle the case on my own. I am so glad I decided to hire D&W Law Group. They kept my case moving, and I was awarded a great settlement. I hope I never need an attorney again, but if I do I will call them.
