Chicago, IL – Three-Car Accident on I-55 at Weber Rd Leaves One Dead, Three Hurt

Chicago, IL - Three-Car Accident on I-55 at Weber Rd Leaves One Dead, Three Hurt

Chicago, IL (February 17, 2022) – After a major collision on the Stevenson Expressway in Will County, one person was killed early on Monday, per reports from the Illinois State Police.

At about 3:50 a.m., according to ISP, a vehicle that had been involved in an earlier collision was pulled to the side of traffic in the left lane of northbound Interstate 55 near Weber Road. Shortly thereafter, another car sideswiped it. When a third vehicle struck the second automobile at that point, it caught fire.

The second car’s driver was declared dead at the scene. The other drivers suffered minor injuries that were treated at the scene, but a passenger in the third vehicle was sent to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

All southbound lanes of traffic were blocked until around 10:00 a.m. An investigation is still ongoing in the meantime.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family of the deceased victim. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their loved ones at this time.

Car Accidents in Chicago

According to official records, there were roughly 95,000 car accidents in Illinois in 2016. Nearly 980 individuals perished directly due to more than 900 disastrous accidents. In most fatal automobile accidents, one or more individuals are killed due to causes such as driving under the influence, striking a stationary object or traveling at an unsafely high speed.

Unsurprisingly, the majority of traffic-related fatalities and injuries in Cook County occur on or near heavily used thoroughfares. Recent statistics supplied by the state of Illinois indicate that about a quarter of all traffic accidents in the state occur in the greater Chicago metropolitan area.

Sadly, automobile accident victims often endure the physical, emotional, and mental consequences of others’ recklessness.

This is why those who have suffered from these injuries or lost a loved one as a result may be entitled to financial compensation. Immediately contact a Chicago auto accident attorney if you were not at fault for an accident that left you with injuries.

In Illinois, if another driver’s negligence or inattention caused your injuries in a vehicle accident, they should pay for your medical bills and other expenditures. Victims of car accidents in Illinois should contact an attorney as soon as possible, as attempting to file a claim or argue their case on their own can make obtaining an acceptable settlement from the other driver or insurance company extremely difficult.
