Chicago, IL - Toddler, One Adult Hospitalized After Two-Vehicle Wreck on Ashland Ave at 35th St

Chicago, IL (May 20, 2023) – Two cars collided in the McKinley Park area on Friday, critically injuring a child and several other victims.

At around 4:30 p.m. on Ashland Avenue at 35th Street, a 16-year-old boy was driving southbound in an SUV while a 43-year-old woman was traveling north in a sedan at the same time. The teen then struck the other driver as she attempted to make a left turn onto 35th Street.

The teen was taken into custody. The other driver was unharmed, but a male passenger, aged 42, was transferred to Stroger Hospital of Cook County in fair condition after suffering minor injuries. However, a 3-year-old child in the vehicle was taken to the same hospital in serious condition after suffering a head injury.

The Major Accident Investigation Unit of the Chicago Police Department is looking into the accident and has not provided further details.

The injured victims and their families are in our thoughts, and we wish them a full recovery.

Injury-Causing Crashes in Chicagoland

More than 96,000 people were hurt or died in car accidents in Illinois last year, according to government statistics. Data analysts and traffic experts have linked most of these catastrophic events to causes like impaired driving, speeding, and accidents with stationary objects.

Moreover, the lion’s share of vehicle accidents in and around Cook County happen at busy intersections or along major routes. According to the most recent data available from the state, more than a quarter of all traffic accidents in Illinois take place in the greater Chicago area.

Injured victims of traffic accidents often have to pay for the mistakes of careless drivers. In addition to escalating medical bills, horrific physical injuries, and other financial issues, patients must cope with the stress and suffering of trauma and emotional distress.

If you or a loved one were injured in any of these situations, you may be able to take legal action. If you or a loved one were hurt in a car accident that wasn’t your fault, you should schedule an appointment with a Chicago car accident attorney right once.

  • "Excellent Law Firm!"

I cannot recommend D&W Law Group enough. From the moment I met the team, I felt confident that I was in good hands. They kept in touch with me every step of the way. My attorneys fought the insurance company, and we settled my case without having to go to court. Excellent law firm!

  • "Great Settlement"

When I had my accident, the insurance company dragged its feet. I tried to handle the case on my own. I am so glad I decided to hire D&W Law Group. They kept my case moving, and I was awarded a great settlement. I hope I never need an attorney again, but if I do I will call them.
