Chicago, IL – Two Officers Hurt After Car Accident in Pursuit at 72nd St & Fairfield Ave

Chicago, IL - Two Officers Hurt After Car Accident in Pursuit at 72nd St & Fairfield Ave

Chicago, IL (February 28, 2023) – On Friday afternoon, two Chicago police officers were hurt in a collision near Marquette Park.

Superintendent David Brown tweeted that the collision occurred as the cops were responding to a report about a stolen car. He said that he had visited the cops in the hospital, where he discovered that both suffered several fractures but are expected to recover.

Witnesses reported seeing the police pursue another car at a high rate of speed before colliding with a tree at the junction of 72nd Street and Fairfield Avenue.

At about 2:40 p.m., officers responding to the stolen car complaint swerved to avoid colliding with another vehicle in traffic, according to Chicago police. The unmarked police vehicle lost control and hit a tree.

The Chicago Fire Department said that two cops were transported to Christ Hospital in critical condition. In the meantime, two people have been arrested in connection with the stolen car.

An investigation remains ongoing at this time.

Our thoughts are extended to the injured victims and their families in hopes of their complete recovery.

Chicagoland Traffic Accidents

In Illinois, at least 90,000 persons were killed or wounded in motor vehicle accidents in 2017. There were likely a thousand of these incidents, and as a result, around 970 people perished. Studies indicate that driving under the influence, excessive speed, and collisions with immovable objects are the three leading causes of fatality in automotive accidents.

The majority of traffic accidents in Chicago County and its environs occur at junctions. Statistics from the most recent year indicate that more than one-fourth of all vehicle accidents in Illinois occur in the Chicago metropolitan area.

The at-fault driver should cover your medical bills if you were injured in a collision that might have been prevented. If you or a loved one has been injured as a result of one of these conditions, you may be qualified to file a lawsuit. If you were injured in a car accident that was not your fault in Chicago, you should see an attorney immediately.

You may bring a personal injury lawsuit against the negligent driver who caused your injuries in Illinois. Accident victims in Illinois should contact an attorney as quickly as possible after a collision since doing so may speed compensation negotiations with the person at blame and their insurance.
