Chicago, IL – Woman Hospitalized After Hit-and-Run on 21st Pl

Chicago, IL - Woman Hospitalized After Hit-and-Run on 21st Pl

Chicago, IL (April 3, 2023) – On Sunday night, Chicago police were searching for the driver of a car that plowed into a Lower West Side residence.

They reported that the male suspect struck another vehicle head-on at 7:50 p.m. but continued driving until he lost control and struck a home in the 1600 block of West 21st Place. The driver then fled the scene.

Police reported that a 26-year-old woman from the vehicle he struck was transported to Stroger Hospital in good condition. No one was injured inside the residence.

Officials from the Chicago fire department ensured the site was secure and free of structural hazards as of late Sunday evening. In the meantime, detectives from Area Three are continuing to investigate at this time.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families. We hope for their complete recovery.

Top Causes of Car Accidents in Illinois

Approximately 1.3% of all accidents in Illinois include pedestrians. Sadly, they are also responsible for 15.8% of all fatal accidents documented in our state. Pedestrians are more prone to suffer serious and fatal injuries and accidents owing to the fact that they have no protection during mishaps. Unfortunately, approximately 200 individuals lose their lives each year as a consequence of pedestrian collisions in our state.

Many of these incidents are a consequence of driver carelessness. When motorists fail to operate their cars safely, they put the lives of others in danger. This is especially true for pedestrians, who are already at a disadvantage in accidents.

There are a number of reasons that contribute to the high prevalence of pedestrian collisions in our state. Many of them are caused by human error. In point of fact, the following are some of the most frequent causes of pedestrian collisions that authorities observe:

  • Motorists who failed to yield the right-of-way to pedestrians who are crossing at authorized crossing zones.
  • Drivers who are intoxicated by drugs or alcohol while driving their cars.
  • Drivers who are distracted by mobile phones or other things while operating a motor vehicle.
  • Drivers that are driving too fast for the current road conditions or weather.

If a family member has died as a result of a deadly pedestrian accident, it is imperative that justice be served.
