Chicago, IL - Woman Killed, Three Hurt in Hit-and-Run Near Lake St & Lavergne Ave

Chicago, IL (December 18, 2022) – A woman died early Sunday morning, December 18, in an automobile accident on Chicago’s West Side.

The deceased woman, according to the police, was the driver of one of the vehicles involved in a serious vehicle accident at Lake Street and Lavergne Avenue in the South Austin area. The medical examiner has not yet provided details surrounding her identity.

Three of her passengers were also seriously injured and sent to the hospital.

When cops arrived, whoever was in the second vehicle had already fled, according to the police. However, the investigation is still continuing, and officials have requested that any prospective witnesses come forward with information.

Our deepest sympathies are extended to the deceased victim’s family. The injured victims are in our thoughts, and we wish them a full recovery.

Hit-and-Run Crashes in the Greater Chicago Area

The number of hit-and-run deaths in the United States has increased by more than 32% in recent years, despite an overall decline in fatalities from other types of vehicle accidents. Illinois is home to a number of the most populous and walkable cities and towns in the country, including Chicago, Springfield, and Rockford. However, on these densely populated highways, the danger of severe injury or death for pedestrians is greatly enhanced.

In actuality, Cook County has the highest pedestrian death rate in the state. Authorities report that pedestrian fatalities reached a five-year high in 2019, with more than 95 pedestrians murdered in Cook County alone.

When confronted with the devastation of a catastrophic event, such as a pedestrian accident, victims may feel helpless, whether they are coping with continuing health problems, physical discomfort, or enormous medical expenses. On occasion, pedestrian accident victims die as a result of their injuries, leaving bereaved families to struggle with growing bills, the lost earning potential of their loved one, and funeral costs in addition to the unbearable grief of losing a family member.

However, if you were injured or a loved one was murdered in an accident involving a hit-and-run driver, you may have several legal alternatives in the future. After contacting a Chicago automobile accident attorney, you may learn that you are entitled to full and fair financial recompense.

Under the Illinois Wrongful Death Act, individuals who have been wounded due to another motorist’s carelessness or inattention may seek compensation from that driver. Consequently, family members and dependents get compensation if their claim is successful.

Consequently, it is crucial that family members contact an experienced Illinois accident attorney immediately after one of these accidents. When you have been engaged in an accident caused by a negligent driver or have lost a loved one, the D&W Law Group will do all necessary to ensure that you get the maximum compensation to which you are entitled.

  • "Excellent Law Firm!"

I cannot recommend D&W Law Group enough. From the moment I met the team, I felt confident that I was in good hands. They kept in touch with me every step of the way. My attorneys fought the insurance company, and we settled my case without having to go to court. Excellent law firm!

  • "Great Settlement"

When I had my accident, the insurance company dragged its feet. I tried to handle the case on my own. I am so glad I decided to hire D&W Law Group. They kept my case moving, and I was awarded a great settlement. I hope I never need an attorney again, but if I do I will call them.
