Downers Grove, IL - Man Hit & Killed By BNSF Metra Train at Washington & Main Sts

Downers Grove, IL (August 4, 2022) – The BNSF Metra line was shut down on Thursday evening, August 4, during the rush hour after a man was hit and killed by a train in the Downers Grove region.

Downers Grove Police officers were sent to the BNSF Line tracks near Main Street at 5:50 p.m. in response to a complaint that a person had been hit by a train. Police determined that the man was hit by a westbound Metra train at the Main Street and Washington Street intersection and subsequently died at the location.

After colliding with the man, BNSF Line train No. 1267 was halted at the Fairview station, and the whole line was closed for the majority of the evening rush. Before 7:00 p.m., a railroad track was repaired so that trains could continue. Nonetheless, major delays persisted, and an investigation is currently ongoing.

Our heartfelt sympathy and condolences go out to the deceased man’s family and loved ones.

Pedestrian Crashes and Fatalities in Chicago

In recent years, the number of pedestrian fatalities in the United States has increased by about 34% despite a general decline in fatalities from other forms of motor vehicle accidents. Several of the most populous and walkable cities in the United States, like Chicago, Springfield, and others, are situated in Illinois, a state afflicted by this dreadful tendency. On the busy streets of these highly populated areas, pedestrians sadly face a greater risk of suffering a life-threatening injury or death.

Cook County has the highest pedestrian fatality rate in Illinois. In actuality, authorities reported a five-year high of at least 120 pedestrian fatalities in Cook County in 2019.

Whether they are dealing with ongoing health problems, excruciating agony, or enormous medical expenditures, victims of a major tragedy may feel powerless in the face of the disastrous results. Occasionally, pedestrian accident victims die as a consequence of their injuries, leaving their families to contend with mounting expenses, diminished earning ability, burial bills, and the painful pain of losing a loved one.

If you’ve been wounded or your loved one has been killed in a pedestrian accident, you may have many legal options. After consulting with a Chicago vehicle accident attorney, you may discover that you are entitled to full and reasonable monetary compensation.

Under the Illinois Wrongful Death Act, persons who have been wounded by the negligence or inattention of another motorist may seek compensation. If a lawsuit is successful, relatives and dependents get compensation.

Consequently, family members must call an Illinois accident attorney as soon as one of these occurrences happens. Whether you have been involved in a preventable accident or have lost a loved one, the D&W Law Group will make every effort to ensure that you get the utmost compensation to which you are entitled.
