Englewood, IL - Six Hospitalized After Pedestrian Accident at 63rd & Halsted Sts

Englewood, IL (August 26, 2022) – At the busy junction of 63rd Street and Halsted Street in Englewood, a car struck another vehicle and at least two pedestrians, sending several people to the hospital late on Friday afternoon, August 26.

A GMC driven by a 28-year-old man was traveling northbound on Halsted at about 4:25 p.m. when he allegedly ran a red light at 63rd Street and collided with a Honda being operated by a 54-year-old woman.

The GMC then struck a man and woman who were walking across the intersection, both of unknown age. Both victims were rushed in serious condition to the University of Chicago Medical Center. According to the Englewood Fire Department, two additional people and two children were transported to Stroger Hospital of Cook County and Comer Children’s Hospital, respectively. A seventh individual involved declined treatment at the scene.

Late on Friday, an investigation was being conducted by the Chicago PD and the Englewood Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Unit. No additional details have been made available to the public.

The injured victims and their loved ones have our warmest wishes for a quick recovery.

Pedestrian Accident Rates & Injuries in Chicagoland

However, the number of pedestrian fatalities in the US has lately increased by around 36%, despite an overall decline in mortality from other motor vehicle accidents. Illinois is home to some of the most populated and walkable cities in the country, including Chicago, Springfield, and others. And what’s more, a pedestrian is unfortunately more likely to be killed or gravely hurt while traversing such busy, high-traffic roadways in these densely populated areas.

Illinois’ Cook County has the highest incidence of pedestrian fatalities in the whole state. At least 120 pedestrian fatalities, a five-year high, were reported in Cook County in 2019.

Victims of a devastating tragedy may feel powerless in the face of the sad results, whether they are dealing with ongoing physical conditions, severe anguish, or exorbitant medical bills. Pedestrian accident victims all too often pass away from their wounds, leaving their families to deal with mounting bills like funeral fees in addition to the heartbreaking loss of a loved one.

You could have a number of legal options if you or a loved one was hurt or died in a pedestrian accident. After speaking with a Chicago car accident lawyer, you could discover that you are entitled to fair and complete financial compensation.

Anyone who has been hurt due to the negligence or inattention of another motorist may seek compensation under the Illinois Wrongful Death Act. Dependents and family members are rewarded if a lawsuit is successful.

Family members should thus speak with an Illinois accident attorney as soon as one of these occurrences takes place. Whether you lost a loved one or were hurt in an accident that might have been prevented, The D&W Law Group will do all in its power to help you get the maximum amount of compensation to which you are entitled.

  • "Excellent Law Firm!"

I cannot recommend D&W Law Group enough. From the moment I met the team, I felt confident that I was in good hands. They kept in touch with me every step of the way. My attorneys fought the insurance company, and we settled my case without having to go to court. Excellent law firm!

  • "Great Settlement"

When I had my accident, the insurance company dragged its feet. I tried to handle the case on my own. I am so glad I decided to hire D&W Law Group. They kept my case moving, and I was awarded a great settlement. I hope I never need an attorney again, but if I do I will call them.
