Oakwood, IL – Jacob Lovell Killed in Motorcycle Crash on I-74 at MP 202

Oakwood, IL - Jacob Lovell Killed in Motorcycle Crash on I-74 at MP 202

Oakwood, IL (May 8, 2023) – Troopers with the Illinois State Police reported that, on Saturday, May 6, 24-year-old Jacob Lovell of Danville died in an accident near Oakwood.

At roughly 9:15 p.m. on Saturday, Lovell was driving a 2008 Harley-Davidson motorcycle on eastbound I-74 at milepost 202 when he hit a pothole in the right lane, sending him flying off of his bike and onto the road.

The vehicle traveling directly behind Lovell’s motorcycle was able to move out of the way to avoid colliding with him, but the driver of the 2017 Ford Escape, who followed the first driver, did not see Lovell until it was too late to avoid striking the ejected rider.

After EMTs rushed the patient to the emergency room, a local hospital later confirmed Lovell’s death. The Ford Escape’s driver was not hurt.

An investigation into the surrounding circumstances of the accident continues, though no further details were made available.

Our deepest condolences go out to Jacob Lovell’s family.

Motorcycle Collisions in Chicagoland

Motorcycle accidents happen all too often in Illinois, especially in crowded places like Chicago. Therefore, serious injuries or even deaths are common outcomes of such events. Recent statistics from the Illinois Department of Transportation show that eighty percent of motorcycle accidents cause serious injuries.

More than 30% of wounded motorcyclists have injuries so severe that they cannot ride again for months or even years. Many motorcyclists lose their lives due to injuries incurred in crashes like this. Riders on motorcycles are even more vulnerable to road dangers since their vehicles lack the same level of preventative and defensive safety systems as cars.

When these people are murdered in accidents that were not their fault, their surviving loved ones often suffer severe emotional and financial hardships. If you or a loved one were hurt in a motorcycle accident that was someone else’s fault, you might be able to take legal action in the future. When a family member is murdered in an avoidable Chicago accident, you should immediately speak with an attorney about your legal options.
