Helping Chicago Area Residents after Catastrophic Injury Accidents

Some of the accident cases we take on involve the most severe types of injuries. These cases require a special degree of sophistication and sensitivity to the unique issues they present. We work with medical experts and other professionals as necessary to develop a complete life care plan that details the lifetime of additional costs these injuries most often bring. Our Chicago personal injury lawyers understand the complex medical and economic issues involved in catastrophic injury cases, and we take the time to build a strong case for maximum compensation. We readily lend our expertise to help people suffering from any of the following:

Fractures – Broken bones may cause long-term pain and severe, sometimes permanent, disability. Serious compound fractures may require open reduction surgery to repair, along with the insertion of pins or other metal hardware. When the fracture extends into the joint or intra-articular space, serious, life-threatening infections or debilitating arthritis can be the result.

Burn Injuries – Serious burns can be both extremely painful and psychologically traumatic, often resulting in permanent scarring or disfigurement and nerve damage. A severe burn can also be life-threatening, putting the victim at risk of infection, hypothermia or other serious medical conditions. Burn victims may require multiple skin grafts and reconstructive surgeries over the course of years to reach maximum medical improvement.

Brain Injuries – A concussion or traumatic brain injury (TBI) can result when the head strikes or is struck by some object, such as in a fall on dangerous premises, motorcycle accident or construction accident. Also, rapid acceleration-deceleration trauma (whiplash) in a car accident can result in a TBI even without an external impact to the head, by causing shearing of connecting tissue or bruising on the brain from the brain striking the interior of the skull. Serious TBIs can involve loss of memory, speech, and cognition, as well as emotional changes. Long-term occupational therapy and psychotherapy are often necessary to help a brain injury victim recover as much function as possible.

Spinal Cord Injuries – Damage to the spinal cord most often results in permanent paralysis – loss of feeling and muscle control – in the parts of the body below the point where the spinal cord was cut or severed. Disabilities range from paraplegia to quadriplegia to the loss of involuntary reflexes such as breathing and swallowing, requiring round-the-clock care and expensive medical equipment. Even damage to the lowermost spinal nerves from a herniated disc can cause cauda equina syndrome, a serious condition which if left untreated can lead to permanent paralysis in the legs and the loss of control of bladder and bowel functions.

Recovering the Full Range of Damages after a Negligent Act

People and businesses owe a duty to the public to use reasonable, ordinary care in their activities, whether driving a car or truck or maintaining the premises of a business. Some entities owe an even higher duty to the people they serve, such as common carriers in bus passenger accidents, or doctors and hospitals that commit malpractice on their patients. Our comprehensive Chicagoland personal injury practice helps people injured in all types of accidents recover the full range of legal damages applicable to their injury, including:

  • Past medical expenses
  • Future medical expenses
  • Rehabilitation
  • Lost wages or income
  • Diminished earning capacity
  • Pain and suffering
  • Emotional distress
  • Loss of quality of life
  • Loss of intimate marital contact

Our lawyers have achieved success for our clients, time and time again, including numerous multimillion dollar results in vehicle accidents, construction site accidents, premises liability and wrongful death. By focusing exclusively in the field of personal injury, we have been able to develop the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to provide strong, effective representation geared toward achieving results.
