Chicago-Area Semi-Trailer Crashes
Semi-trucks are used to carry commodities throughout the nation, which means they must also negotiate the ins and outs of bustling city streets, interstates, expressways, and highways. Semi-trailers are, of course, common on our country’s roadways, but they also pose a risk to public safety. Because tractor-trailers are much larger and heavier than the great majority of other automobiles on the road, a deadly situation may evolve quickly in the case of a collision.
About 12,200 semi-truck-related events occurred in 2018, and police say that over 2,000 of these incidents ended in fatalities. According to the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), although semi-truck accidents make up a very small percentage of all collisions, they result in a disproportionately high number of deaths.
Regardless of the circumstances leading up to a semi-truck accident, victims and their families end up bearing the brunt of the costs when they sustain injuries as a result of someone else’s negligence. Those who have been hurt by these often preventable incidents could feel helpless in the face of debilitating emotional suffering and high medical costs.
Fortunately, you may be entitled to a broad variety of legal remedies if you or a member of your family suffers injuries as a consequence of any of these situations. If you or a member of your family was wounded in a truck accident in the Chicagoland area that was brought on by someone else’s negligence, you should contact a lawyer as quickly as you can.
